6 volt battery suppliers

Post by Paullawrencewyatt » Fri Aug 19, 2016 7:32 pm

Does anyone have a good source of 6volt battery's in the uk, can't believe the prices! Would it hurt putting a 12v battery on it to just pick up tomorrow ,as in start up and drive onto a trailer?

Yes , six volt batteries are very expensive and apparently don't have much of a service life either . You can use a 12 volt battery fairly safely , there is not much to do to permanently convert the tractor to 12 either .
For the moment though and to load the tractor use a 12 , just don't crank it over for very long on the starter motor , this is the only component that will suffer . Start the tractor in the normal way using the choke and making sure the ignition and petrol are turned on first . To avoid overheating the starter use it for a few seconds at a time then stop if the tractor won't start . Let it cool down for a minute or two then try again . The six volt starter is expensive and cannot be replaced with an original later model twelve although there are modern conversion units available .
